Advocacy is at the heart of the PTA mission. The Advocacy Committee helps educate, inform, and engage our PTSA members on issues that affect scholars, families, educators, and public education. By promoting awareness, encouraging informed participation, and strengthening relationships within our school community, the committee helps ensure that every scholar has a voice.
Committee responsibilities may include:
Promoting awareness of issues that impact public education and scholar success.
Sharing advocacy information and resources from National PTA, Texas PTA, Cedar Hill ISD, and other trusted educational organizations.
Monitoring local, state, and national education topics that may affect our school community.
Representing the PTSA at monthly Cedar Hill ISD Board of Trustees meetings and sharing important updates, decisions, and information with our Executive Board and PTSA members.
Encouraging informed participation in advocacy initiatives, surveys, and action alerts.
Supporting family engagement by helping members understand how educational decisions impact our scholars and schools.
Collaborating with PTSA leadership to support advocacy-related initiatives throughout the school year.

CHISD Board Meeting Liaison – Attend monthly Cedar Hill ISD Board of Trustees meetings and share important updates with the PTSA Executive Board and membership.
Legislative & Policy Monitor – Stay informed on state and national education topics affecting public schools and share relevant Texas PTA and National PTA advocacy updates.
Advocacy Awareness Coordinator – Help educate families by sharing advocacy resources, action alerts, and educational information throughout the school year.
Scholar Advocacy Ambassador (High School) – Encourage student voice and participation in age-appropriate advocacy and civic engagement opportunities.
Advocacy helps volunteers and scholars become informed community leaders while developing valuable communication, leadership, and civic engagement skills. For scholars, these experiences can strengthen college, scholarship, internship, and employment applications by demonstrating leadership, initiative, community involvement, and a commitment to public service. Eligible high school PTSA volunteer activities may also earn community service hours toward school graduation requirements.
